September is when the season stops feeling like pre-season and starts counting for something. The first weekend, 4 to 6 September

The game most Nigerian punters will build around is Arsenal against Chelsea at 16:30 on the Sunday. It sits inside a heavy weekend. Saturday alone carries five Premier League games at 15:00, Manchester City versus Coventry City among them. Every time given is WAT. Because the UK is still on summer time, UK listings match Nigerian time exactly in September.

The middle weekend, 11 to 14 September

The heavyweight game here is Sunderland against Arsenal at 20:00 on the Saturday night. Also worth a look that weekend Liverpool against Fulham at 15:00 and promotion code YOHAIG Chelsea against Hull City at the same time. La Liga also runs a midweek round on the 15th, 16th and 17th, which most people miss.

Matchweek three, and then it stops

The last weekend carries Bournemouth against Liverpool at 14:00 on the Sunday. And then everything goes quiet. The top divisions in England, Spain, Italy, Germany and France all break after 20 September and stay off until October. A merged international window covering 24 September to 6 October means no top-flight club football in those five countries for the last ten days of the month.

The complete list, all competitions and times in WAT, is here: the full Bet9ja fixtures list.

The Super Eagles fill the gap

For Nigerian punters that fortnight is not dead time. Eric Chelle's Super Eagles open their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign at home to Madagascar at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, then travel to face Guinea-Bissau four days later. The draw put Nigeria in Group L alongside Tanzania, Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau, and there is a catch in it. Because Tanzania co-host the finals and are through regardless, the qualifying maths in that group is not the usual top-two arrangement. With the 2026 World Cup gone, the mood around the team is short on patience.
